A Unique Partnership

The Special Music School (P.S. 859) is a public/private partnership between New York City Community School District 3 and the Kaufman Center and is the first public elementary school in the United States to combine a full academic program with pre-conservatory level music training within the regular school day.

The rigorous music program provides unparalleled opportunities for the enhancement and extension of each child's musical talents. The music curriculum includes private instrumental lessons in piano, violin, and cello, as well as classes in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, theory, solfege, musical theater and music appreciation, taught by distinguished music professionals.
