PTA Fundraising
Public/Private Partnership
The Special Music School is unique among New York City public schools in that it is the product of a partnership between a private non-profit organization, the Kaufman Center, which funds and administers the music program, and the New York City Department of Education, which funds and administers the academic program. This dual sponsorship means that the Special Music School has a lot to offer both students and parents.
Benefits of the Special Music School |
||
| Other Schools | Special Music School | |
| Class Size | 20-30 | 12-18 |
| Cost of 60 private music lessons | About $3,000 | Free |
| Cost of Eurhythmics, Theory, etc. | $$ | Free |
| Tuition at private schools | Up to $27,000 | Free |
The dual sponsorship also means that both the academic and music programs need parents’ help in terms of monetary support and volunteer time. There are many ways that parents can support both programs ranging from accompanying a class trip, serving on a PTA committee or the Executive Board.
There are many ways to contribute to the Kaufman Center. Here are the three main ways:
-
Write a check. See if your company has matching contributions - they count too. And don't forget your direct contribution to the Kaufman Center is tax deductible.
-
Buy tickets to the Kaufman Center Musical Evenings and Gala.
-
Volunteer your time
