Fundraising Events

The Special Music School (SMS) is funded by the Kaufman Center and by the New York City Department of Education.

The SMS Parents Association raises funds to support both the academic (public school funded) and music (Kaufman Center supported) sides of the School program. Most SMS PTA events support both parts of the program, and families are always encouraged to split their contributions of time, money and other support between academic and music program needs.

Ways to contribute are listed below, ranging from paying PTA dues (which support everything including classroom supplies, items in the PTA budget that directly fund the Kaufman Center, like an ad in their annual benefit program), to the Barnes and Noble concert - which combines a bookfair for classrooms with fundraising that also directly supports the music program.

This listing also includes Kaufman Center events that support the Special Music School (such as Musical Evenings), and Kaufman Center events that support all the programs of the Kaufman Center (Merkin Hall, the Lucy Moses School, as well as the SMS).
