Your PTA contribution matters. 

 

Special Music School is an innovative public-private partnership between the New York City Department of Education, addressing the academic and intellectual needs of our students, and Kaufman Music Center, facilitating the musical education opportunities offered by SMS including lessons, performance classes, chorus and theory class and more! Both are essential. There’s no school without the DOE and no music without KMC. Due to this unique relationship, PTA fundraising efforts are two-fold: Our community supports BOTH the academic and music sides of the curriculum.

 

ACADEMICS

The New York City Department of Education isn’t able to cover the costs of the enriched education we want for our children. The PTA supplements the school’s DOE budget (by $130,000) to support:

  • Professional Development
  • Advanced Placement Training
  • Technology Upgrades
  • Classroom Supplies
  • Capital Improvements
  • Field Trips
  • Graduation Events
  • National Dance Institute (K-5)
  • Teacher Discretionary Funds
  • Art supplies
  • Community building event
 

 

 

The PTA ANNUAL APPEAL funds the above mentioned academic initiatives.

Our suggested contribution is $400, $800 or $1,200/student.

MUSIC

Special Music School’s exceptional music curriculum is entirely funded by Kaufman Music Center at a cost of approximately $10,000 per student, per year and supports the following:

  • Private Lessons
  • Solfege/Dalcroze
  • Music Theory
  • Chorus
  • Music History
  • Music Technology
  • Composition
  • Performance Classes
  • Small Ensembles: Chamber Music
  • Large Ensembles: Orchestra, Concert Choir, Jazz Big Band, Wind Ensemble
